Christmas Decorating 2014

*Note for next year: Calista put the star on the tree and the Santa ornament on the advent calendar this year. Piper, that means you get to do those special things next year! You’d be surprised at how much contention this causes each year. If I document it, then there can be NO arguments.
We finally got our tree a few days into December. Any sooner than that and the tree dies before Christmas day. Téa just wanted to hug the tree, Piper showed a heart with her hands because she was so happy and Calista is just always happy.

Calista was the lucky one to climb on the wall and clip the star to the top of the tree.

Our tree was a super full one this year, and probably our tallest one. Mark had to cut a lot off the top to get it to fit.

Aww, so sweet. Piper really is the one that bonds the two oldest together. Funny how she’s usually the one in the middle of the pictures.

Happy girls.

Although, they weren’t very happy after the picture. We made them go to bed since it was super late after we got the lights on the tree. We promised them we’d do the ornaments first thing the next morning so that mollified them, a little.
The next morning it was straight to decorating. I didn’t hang a single ornament this year. The kids did  a great job all on their own.

Now that they are getting taller the girls remember to decorate the top and make sure everything is spaced out instead of only the lower three-fourths getting trimmed.

When did Calista get to looking so grown up?

Don’t get me started on how grown up this kid is. She’s only 5 months away from turning 12!

I’m hoping this kid never grows up. She keeps us all laughing and reminds us to just have fun.

We love the Christmas holiday. We really try to keep the girl’s focused on the Savior and His birth. It’s hard to do when all the stores, TV commercials, and radio bombard us with ‘buy this, buy that’. It’s a lot of fun to see the girls get really excited when they come up with the perfect gift  for someone. You can tell they put a lot of thought into what that person would want. It’s at least getting them to not focus on all the things they want for Christmas.
We’ve started a tradition where the girls think of a gift they want to give Jesus for the coming year. Sometime before Christmas Eve we all write down on a piece of paper what we will give Jesus and then put it in His stocking. Not only does it get us to think of Him a little more, it’s something we can give to Him when He has given so much to us.
