Home Project #1-Day 1

Even though we bought a brand spankin' new house we have quite a few home improvement projects that we want to do. I thought it would be cool to blog about them (mainly for the book that I will someday get to printing out from this blog). Project #1, which is essential, started two Saturdays ago on Jan. 10. The home we bought was a spec home and the builder decided not to include a half bath on the main level because the original plans have it next to the front door...in the living room. Right...I lived with a bathroom in my living room/kitchen for 3 1/2 years. I was very glad they didn't do that. So, they moved the laundry room upstairs (which I love!) and the space left open on the main level looks, or should I say looked, like this...

It's just opposite of my pantry and is between the garage and kitchen. So, we decided to make this space into our half bath. Luckily we have a very handy man in the family. Yes, Mark is very handy, but I'm talking about our brother-in-law, Jared. This guy can do anything. Works out nice for us that he's family and likes to be paid in Turtle Cake. Cheap labor, huh? Mark and Jared whipped up the framing for the wall, put all the electrical stuff in, and did the plumbing for the toilet all within a few hours on the first Saturday. It makes it nice and easy that we have a 7 ft. high "crawl" space in the basement so they could do the plumbing down there. One of these days I'll brave it and go down in the dungeon and take pictures.
I had to add this photo of the guys working. Just as I snapped the picture Jared realized I was taking pictures. I get this face from him a lot.
And the final product of the first day. Not bad, huh? I promise it will look like a bathroom soon.
