Jupiter and a New Car

October was a stressful month for Téa. She had a huge astronomy project to work on. She chose to learn all about Jupiter and her project included a big power point presentation and an even bigger model.
It took about four days from start to finish. Téa made it herself. I only helped her find and make the recipe for the paste for the paper mache portion of the project. After two days and two layers of paper we had our sphere and it was ready to paint.
Notice Max? I swear he thinks he’s a dog. He has to be a part of everything and loves to be around people…and projects.

The next night was all about the details.

Sometimes being a perfectionist comes in handy. Téa was very detailed when painting the planet.

She used this book for inspiration.

For some reason I can’t find a picture of the finished project. I’m going to have to ask Téa’s teacher to borrow the project for a photo shoot. Her teacher asked to keep the project and since we didn’t need it we said sure.
Big news for us! We sold the minivan and bought a new car.

Here was my tribute to the van on Facebook: We had some good times and we had some not-so-great times. You gave us almost 60,000 miles of our life. You brought Piper home from the hospital, carried us to Disneyland 3 times (and other numerous trips to California), survived 3 kids every day for 6 years, and locked me out more times than I care to remember. Oh, and cost us thousands of extra dollars in repairs. Now you are on your way to a new family. Calista actually shed tears for you (weird, right?) Godspeed, little van.
And here’s our new baby! Or should I say beast? It’s a Yukon XL and I’m in love.

Check out those beautiful new beefy tires! They are huge!

And that tread. Swoon.

I love all the extra space in the new car and, call me weird, I love driving a huge car. I feel like I’ll have the upper hand in an accident. It does hurt when I fill up the gas tank, though.
