Happy Birthday Téa!

I can't believe it, but my oldest is now five years old. Téa had her birthday yesterday and we had a great day. We started out the morning as soon as we all woke up. We came downstairs and Mark had made a "birthday chair" for her by tying a bunch of balloons to it. I caught her first expression when she saw it but the photo turned out blurry. She loved it.

We opened presents and Téa was very excited for her gifts. She got a Little Einsteins DVD and pretty much watched it all day. I let her do whatever she wanted and she chose to watch her new movie most of the day. I asked Téa what she wanted for breakfast and she, of course, asked for Dutch Babies. We all had breakfast together which is rare, especially during the week. Mark doesn't eat breakfast so it was a nice treat for Téa to eat breakfast with Daddy. Mark went in late to work so he could spend the morning doing the birthday thing with Téa and he came home just after 2 pm. The girls were so excited to have him home and we decided since it was a beautiful day out we'd go to Discovery Park. This is by far the coolest park for kids to play at in Pleasant Grove, but a nightmare to keep track of your kids. I can't just let the girls run around and do what they want just yet. But with two of us we had a great time and I was more tired than the girls I think. I'm to the point I can't bend over very well and there are a lot of small spaces where adults have to duck to get through. By the end I pretty much watched Daddy and the girls run around.

Téa chose pizza for dinner and we all thanked her as Papa John's is THE best pizza ever! After devouring pizza we had a bath and then sang Happy Birthday. Téa loves strawberries so for dessert we had strawberry shortcake. Mmm.

Right after singing and after the camera was turned off Téa burst into tears because she thought when I said "ready, go" she was supposed to blow out the candle, when I meant to start singing. I could tell she was exhausted by then when she was crying over something so little. But we managed to bring back her happy mood for a little while longer to enjoy dessert. Then it was books then off to bed.

It turned out to be a great birthday and I think the birthday girl had a great time. It's hard to believe she's only 5 sometimes. She still acts older in some ways and I feel so very proud of her when she actually acts like a big kid and takes responsibility for things she does and the rare times she's a great big sister to Calista. Thankfully those times are a little more frequent these days and it's no wonder Calista wants to be just like her big sister. I know Téa will be a great sister to her new baby sister come July. She already talks about feeding her and getting her diapers and toys. I'm looking forward to it as well!
