Well, Piper managed to make it to her sixth birthday. There were some days I wasn’t sure she would. There are moments when she is so sweet and then the next second…not so sweet. But we still love her. Piper opened up her gifts from us early that morning.
She loves Beanie Boos so she was thrilled to get one from her sisters.
You’d think we’d learn our lesson on not giving Piper weapons as gifts but we couldn’t say no to her one request. She wanted a bow and arrow set like Calista. She even had to dress up like a princess before she could use it.
We decided to have a friend party on Piper’s birthday. With our California vacation ending just a week before her birthday and plans to leave on another vacation just two days after, this day was the only day available. It turned out great, though. The forecast was to be clear, sunny skies with temps at 100 degrees so we thought a water party would be just the thing to beat the heat.
Téa and Calista were my big helpers for this party. We had a water bottle ring toss game.
Target practice with a wet sponge ball.
Calista and Téa helped make the sponges so that each girl could have one to take home. This was just before everyone squeezed freezing cold water on their heads. They thought it was hilarious.
The sponge balls were also used for this game.
This game didn’t last long. The wind picked up and started knocking the cups down before the girls had a chance to throw their sponges.
You can’t have a water party without water balloons. Again, Téa and Calista were my helpers…as targets!
Ready. Aim.
Fire!
We played Duck, Duck, Splash! which ended up being the favorite game. The girls loved dumping an entire bucket of water on each other’s heads. Téa got to demonstrate the first round.
The second favorite was kind of like hot potato and musical chairs combined. I started the music and the girls passed around a water balloon. When the music ended the girl holding the water balloon had to pop the balloon over their head.
Thankfully, Piper just wanted plain cupcakes with pink frosting. She must love me. I would have tried to do something more elaborate but she was adamant about having pink cupcakes. Phew!
We had 9 of Piper’s friends come to the party. She invited 14 I think.
Having a birthday so close to the 4th of July is hard to catch people in town or not doing family things. All the kids had a great time and I was exhausted.
Later that night Piper’s awesome Primary teacher came by and dropped off a cute cupcake so we used it for the candle and singing happy birthday that night.
This spunky gal brings so much joy and fun to our family. She might get frustrated easily but we can still turn her mood around almost instantly. Calista and Téa adore her, most of the time. She loves to play any game you ask her to. She does NOT like to be thought of as the baby of the family. She doesn’t like being left out of things just because she’s little. But being the baby of the family definitely has it’s perks. She does get spoiled with everyone’s attention.
Some of our favorite words Piper still says: patteren (pattern), freeze brain (brain freeze), panacake (pancake), renember (remember), remembry (memory), dangerouser (as in it’s dangerouser to drive on the road when there’s ice), and nakin (napkin). Happy birthday Pip, Pippin, Pipsqueak. We love you!
