Pulling the Plug

We are on day 4 of being completely plug free in this house.  If you remember, back in November when Mark and I got back from Italy, Piper was still very much attached to her plug…all day long.  So, I finally bit the bullet and pulled the plug (so to speak) and got rid of it during waking hours.  Four nights ago Piper finally tore through her last good plug and we decided that was it.  I swore months ago never to buy another pack of them and since a ripped pacifier wasn’t that safe anyway, we decided it was time to get rid of them completely.

It’s been an easy transition.  Piper only woke up twice the first night but never actually asked for the plug.  This moment was way overdue but it’s not like the pacifiers could do any more damage to Piper’s teeth.  I’ve  already been told she’ll need surgery and then braces since her labial frenum (yeah, I had to look that one up) is connected too low.  With Piper, it’s between her two front teeth which is why she has a big gap.  Anyway…

All these little steps with Piper just means she’s not my little baby anymore.  Our next big step is getting her in a big girl bed.  We will be skipping the toddler bed stage since that uses the same size mattress as a crib and she’s quickly outgrowing that one.  This kid is so tall she might as well be 4 years old.  I’m not ready for her to move to a normal bed.  But I guess I can’t keep her in a crib forever.

Hooray! It was getting a little weird for her to be taking her pacifier out to say, "Mom, can you get me some crackers please," and then putting it back in her mouth.
She really did look like a four year old walking around with it!

I cannot believe your baby is not so much a baby anymore...
